SEO for Beginners: How to realize a website audit?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the first step to make your website more visible and convert prospects into consumers. Your website visibility is directly linked to your website ranking on Google. The more on top of Google’s search page you will appear the higher your website visibility will be. Even though you might understand the SEO term, it can be difficult to apply the general principles of content optimization to your website.

That’s why I decided to create a monthly series of articles where I will explain how as a beginner you can realize an SEO audit of your own website. Through these articles, I will explain the general: technical, semantic and popularity factors that impact the website’s optimization.

Before starting let’s defined two important keywords for this session:

  • Crawling: Following a path of links. When search engine robots (User-agent) come to your website, they follow other linked pages also on your website.
  • Indexing: the process of adding web pages into Google search.

The first element to analyze when auditing your website is its indexing. The term indexing refers to getting your web pages (or other various forms of content from PDFs to videos) into the Google search engine database. To know if your pages are correctly indexed on Google you can use the « site: » function.
