Qu’est-ce que c’est ? Teams est la plateforme collaborative en ligne développé par Microsoft. Elle permet de chatter, faire des visioconférences et de collaborer en ligne sur des documents grâce à l’intégration de Microsoft 365 (anciennement Office 365).

Combien d’utilisateurs ? Microsoft a décidé d’offrir aux entreprise sa solution Teams au début du mois de mars. Les résultats ne se sont pas fait attendre. Dans la semaine du 11 au 18 mars, le nombre d’utilisateurs actifs quotidien est passé de 32 millions à 44 millions.

Malheureusement pour Microsoft, à la suite de ce nombre croissant d’utilisateurs, Teams n’a pas su résister à l’afflux de connexions simultanées venant d’Europe le premier jour de confinement. Aucun problème de cette ampleur n’a été signalé depuis, tout est rentré dans l’ordre ! Tout va même pour le mieux puisque Microsoft vient d’annoncer l’arrivée de nouvelles fonctionnalités pour améliorer le service courant 2020.

Malheureusement, la joie risque d’être de courte durée pour la plateforme. Après les beaux jours vient la crise. Qu’est-ce que c’est ? Jitsi est une application open source de visioconférence. Si la version de base propose des solutions assez basiques (vidéoconférence et chat), il est possible d’ajouter des extensions depuis Github pour augmenter le nombre de fonctionnalités ! Il est donc possible de moduler le logiciel comme bon vous semble.

Combien d’utilisateurs ? Sur l’ensemble du mois de mars, Jitsi aurait multiplié son nombre de téléchargement par 280 pour atteindre le nombre de 1,4 millions de téléchargements (contre 10 000 en janvier et février). Sa popularité viendrait d’Europe, essentiellement de 4 pays : l’Italie, l’Allemagne, l’Espagne et la France.

À la suite des nombreux soucis qui suivent Zoom, Jipsi se présenter comme une excellente alternative open source et respectueuse des données de ses utilisateurs en proposant à ces derniers d’héberger leur propre serveur pour la tenue des visioconférences.

Qu’est-ce que c’est ? Créé en 2015, Discord est un service de VoIP gratuit. C’est un service qui vous permet de vous connecter pour discuter à l’oral (possible aussi à l’écrit) avec d’autres personnes. A l’origine, il est à destination des joueurs de jeux vidéo afin qu’ils puissent se réunir plus facilement pour discuter pendant leurs parties.

Combien d’utilisateurs ? En juillet 2019, la plateforme comptait plus de 250 millions personnes inscrites dans le monde. Et ce chiffre a dû fortement évoluer depuis le début du confinement puisque Discord devient la solution privilégiée pour accueillir les professeurs et les élèves, notamment en France. L’arrivée de cette cible coïncide avec les difficultés rencontrés (et surtout l’indisponibilité) par les outils développés pour l’Éducation Nationale. Ainsi la plateforme se transforme en classe virtuelle. Mais au lieu d’aller en salle 13, il suffit de se connecter au bon salon. Avec l’arrivée de sa nouvelle cible, Discord s’est adapté et a même publié un guide d’utilisation à destination des professeurs !

Conscient du succès qu’aurait la plateforme durant cette période de confinement, Discord avait anticipé un risque de surcharge en augmentant sa capacité d’accueil de 20% dans le monde entier le 16 mars 2020. Cela n’a malheureusement pas suffit puisqu’une heure après l’annonce, ses serveurs sont tombés. Aujourd’hui, tout fonctionne pour le mieux !

Qu’est-ce que c’est ? Créée en 2016 et développée par Epic Games (éditeur du jeu Fortnite), Houseparty est une application de vidéoconférence vous permettant d’appeler et de voir jusque 7 de vos amis en même temps pour organiser par exemples des apéros, des soirées Netflix etc. Elle vous permet également pendant votre conversation de jouer à des jeux en même temps comme le Time’s Up ou le Trivial Poursuit.

Combien d’utilisateurs ? Selon le Financial Times, en une semaine à la mi-mars, l’application a été téléchargé 2 millions de fois dans le monde, contre 130 000 habituellement. Ces chiffres s’expliquent par l’élargissement de la cible. D’abord à destination des adolescents, l’application s’est retrouvée dans les appareils des adultes également à la recherche de liens sociaux dans cette période de confinement.

A l’instar de Zoom, Houseparty voit les critiques arriver aussi rapidement que le succès est apparu. L’application est en effet pointée du doigt pour sa gestion des données personnelles. Il est écrit que l’entreprise est « libre d’utiliser le contenu de toutes les communications passées via ses services, dont toute idée, invention, concept ou techniques” afin “de développer, de concevoir ou de vendre des biens et services ». Et ce n’est malheureusement pas le seul problème auquel Houseparty doit faire face. L’entreprise est au centre d’une autre polémique. Nombreux sont les utilisateurs à avoir indiqué que leurs comptes Spotify, Snapchat ou Apple ont été piratés après avoir installé Houseparty. Cette dernière a annoncé offrir un million de dollars à la personne qui prouverait que ces accusations sont dues à une campagne de diffamation orchestrée par une entreprise concurrente.

Qu’est-ce que c’est ? Twitch est une plate-forme de streaming en direct. Si elle est dédiée principalement aux jeux vidéo et à l’eSport, l’offre aujourd’hui est plus vaste notamment avec l’éclosion des talkshows. Twitch appartient aujourd’hui à Amazon, après son rachat en 2014 pour 1,2 milliards de $ par le groupe de Jeff Bezos.

Combien d’utilisateurs ? Entre le mois de février et le mois de mars, le nombre d’heures de visionnage a augmenté de 23% pour dépasser la barre du milliard. C’est plus que ses concurrents directs Mixer (+15,9%), YouTube Gaming (+10,7%) et Facebook Gaming (3,8%).

Comment expliquer cette explosion du livestream ? La population mondiale étant obligé de rester confiné chez elle, le live est un excellent moyen de garder un lien social et de retrouver de l’authenticité dans le contenu regardé.

Les événements sportifs étant annulés ou reportés, leurs acteurs ont décidé de se tourner vers l’eSport ! En effet, depuis le début du confinement, il n’est pas rare de retrouver des sportifs pratiquer leur sport en virtuel. Par exemple, un tournoi de FIFA 20 a été organisé avec la participation de 20 joueurs de la première division espagnole, retransmis sur Twitch et commenté par de vrais journalistes. La Formule 1 n’est pas en reste non plus avec l’organisation des Virtual GP Series. Il s’agit d’un championnat de F1 virtuel dont 6 pilotes professionnels de la Formule 1 participent : Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), Alexander Albon (RedBull), Lando Norris (McLaren), Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo), Georges Russel (Williams) et Nicholas Latifi (Williams).
