Nous sommes nombreux à gribouiller lorsque l’on assiste à une réunion ou un cours, où lorsque l’on parle au téléphone. Le sketchnoting est une contraction de deux mots anglais, sketch (croquis) et noting (prise de notes dynamique). Cela consiste à faire une prise de notes visuelle et créative mais structurée graphiquement sur une page. Il n’y a pas besoin d’être un dessinateur de génie. Des éléments graphiques très simples que nous avons appris enfants, tels que le carré, le cercle, le triangle et le rectangle sont la base des formes simplifiées utilisées pour créer des illustrations.

On croit souvent que le sketchnoting est un outil récent utilisé par les designers. En réalité, il est bien plus ancien. Il suffit de regarder les croquis d’un certain Léonard de Vinci pour comprendre que sa pensée était déjà structurée par des dessins, des notes et des graphiques.

En 1970, des consultants américains utilisent la facilitation visuelle pour améliorer les échanges au cours des réunions, mais c’est dans les années 2000 que le sketchnoting se popularise grâce aux UX designers. Leur utilisation du sketchnoting pour visualiser les solutions centrées utilisateurs a contribué à son essor, associé en particulier aux méthodes agiles.

Nous vivons aujourd’hui dans un monde VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) dans lequel on nous bombarde d’informations en continu. Cette infobésité nous épuise intellectuellement et pour survivre dans ce nouveau monde, il nous faut des outils. On doit digérer des centaines de mails par jour, prendre des notes lors des réunions, faire de la veille, communiquer sur divers réseaux et se former. Comment réussir à garder ce qui est important ? Et si pour cela on utilisait notre sens visuel ? Notre cerveau est naturellement attiré par les images, alors autant s’en servir !

Soyons honnêtes, les notes que nous prenons en réunion sont souvent désordonnées et rarement relues.

Demande autour de toi, je suis sûre que la plupart des comptes-rendus de réunions ne sont jamais relus par les destinataires.  Alors qu’une prise de notes visuelle permet de rappeler aux participants à une réunion les points importants dans un coup d’œil, sans avoir à lire 10 pages très denses. C’est simple, on se concentre sur l’essentiel.

Nous devons alléger la surcharge cognitive, le sketchnoting permet un balayage visuel, et évite une lecture linéaire des informations par la simplification des informations complexes.

C’est par ailleurs la raison pour laquelle aujourd’hui la communication devient plus visuelle : il suffit de voir l’explosion d’infographies sur internet pour le constater. De plus, le langage visuel est celui que nous parlons tous, c’est autour d’un langage universel que le sketchnoting nous permet de travailler et ensuite partager.
