Quand j’ai débuté le MBA DMB, j’avais en tête toute une série de sujets sur lesquels je voulais écrire pour le blog. Jamais je n’aurais imaginé devoir écrire sur les Parcs à Thèmes de cette manière. Et pourtant, en 2020 l’impensable s’est produit : la quasi-totalité d’entre eux se sont retrouvés fermés à la suite de la pandémie du COVID-19. Comment le digital a-t-il permis à ces mastodontes du divertissement de rester présent malgré tout ?

Le Ludique pour s’occuper

Si les premières semaines de confinement ont été faciles, chacun ayant pu enfin faire ce qu’il reportait à demain, les parcs se sont mis en tête de tromper l’ennui naissant dans certains foyers avec des activités ludiques pour s’occuper en famille. Disneyland Paris n’a pas hésité à lancer un site web entièrement dédié à cette occasion avec Disneyland Paris à la Maison. Ce dernier propose ainsi des jeux pour les plus jeunes mais aussi des recettes inspirées des mets servis dans le Resort pour divertir les plus grands. Avec son interface simple, le site permet aussi de remettre en valeur des contenus antérieurs tels des tutoriels de dessin ou de danse ! Une plateforme qui répond à une vraie demande puisque le site a été victime de son succès dès son lancement.

Le Parc Efteling situé aux Pays-Bas a de son côté proposé un quiz en live sur sa chaîne YouTube permettant à ses fans de tester leurs connaissances. Sur inscription, il était ainsi possible de participer à ce dernier de façon interactive avec à la clé un lot de 100€ de souvenirs. Présenté par O.J Punctuel, un personnage fictif de l’attraction Symbolica, l’activité a rencontré un vif succès avec un taux d’inscription de 100%. Ne restait alors plus que le papier et le crayon pour malgré tout pouvoir participer…

Le confinement, c’est aussi l’occasion de grandir intellectuellement à travers lectures et documentaires. Et nombreuses sont les histoires qui entourent les Parcs et leurs origines, leurs développements et leurs créateurs. (Ceux qui me connaissant savent de quoi je parle !). Sur YouTube, Disney ne s’est ainsi pas contenté de proposer à son public de revivre certains de ses rides, la firme y a ajouté anecdotes en tout genre tandis qu’Universal Orlando propose quant à lui de découvrir les coulisses de ses rides les plus mythiques en vidéo.

Mais c’est surtout sur Instagram que le patrimoine a refait surface avec des photos vintage qui rappellent par la même occasion à quel point les Parcs à Thèmes jouent un rôle clé dans notre culture depuis plusieurs décennies.

Les Watch Party n’ont jamais été aussi populaires et ne se limitent pas aux seuls films. Les Parcs se sont réappropriés ces événements en proposant à leurs communautés de revivre des moments forts à travers des Parades et Shows nocturnes virtuels. Malgré la présence de nombreux enregistrements de fans déjà existants sur YouTube et les autres plateformes, ces captations officielles remportent malgré tout un franc succès du fait de leur réalisation impeccable et de leur qualité supérieure qu’aucun visiteur lambda n’aurait pu proposer avec son smartphone. C’est ainsi 3 millions de vues cumulées en 2 semaines pour la retransmission du show nocturne Happily Ever After qui était joué tous les soirs au Magic Kingdom de Floride depuis 2017.

Récemment Walt Disney World et Universal Orlando sont allés directement demander à leurs visiteurs leurs avis sur les possibles conditions de réouverture. Distanciation sociale dans les files, port du masque, nettoyage fréquent des zones à risque, la parole est donnée via un questionnaire en ligne envoyé par mail à une poignée de fidèles. Il ne s’agit pas de déterminer quelle mesure mettre en place et quelle autre abandonner pour le bon plaisir du public. On le sait, Disney et Universal ont pour clé numéro 1 la sécurité que cela soit pour les visiteurs comme pour le personnel et rien ne sera fait de façon à briser cette règle. Il s’agit avant tout de tester l’opinion publique et de pouvoir estimer quel pourcentage de personnes sera prêt à franchir les grilles une fois la réouverture autorisée. Car il ne suffit pas de rouvrir, il faut aussi pouvoir s’assurer d’être rentable un minimum avant toute chose. Ces informations collectées sont ainsi précieuses afin de pouvoir calculer la base d’investissements à prévoir pour que la machine redémarre comme il se doit.

L’Optimisme pour Terminer

En ce 11 mai 2020, Shanghai Disneyland a réouvert ses portes au public avec de nouvelles mesures (contrôle de température, port du masque…) et une fréquentation limitée. Tout un symbole pour le secteur après des semaines d’incertitude. Si nous sommes encore loin d’en avoir fini avec cette pandémie, ce retour à la normale progressif est porteur d’espoir. Les mauvaises langues diront que plus personne ne voudra désormais participer à des activités de masse. Et pourtant, il n’en est rien puisque les chinois se sont arrachés les billets, tous vendus pour cette première semaine. Preuve s’il en est que le monde a plus que jamais besoin d’un peu de magie…
